The original building was built in 1837, the year when Queen Victoria came to the throne. The property ceased to operate as a bakery in 1954 when the last baker's wife died.
The old bakehouse and front shop remained virtually untouched for forty years and during that time ran into dereliction.
In 1994 the property was restored and many of the original bakery features remain. Where the ovens were originally located has been converted into a private dining area full of character and nostalgic charm leading out in to a pleasant and secluded walled garden which being covered with unique canvas sails and heated, is perfect for al fresco dining during the warmer months. For the comfort of our customers and to fulfill our obligations as a Gold Award clean air establishment, the entire garden area is non-smoking.
In the interests of providing local produce with known provenance and continuing our dedication to the principles as outlined by by 'Tastes of Lincolnshire', The Old Bakery has its own garden allotment from which numerous vegetables are picked daily and served in the restaurant.
The Old Bakery rooms have been awarded a 4 Star rating from the AA and 4 Star Silver from Quality in Tourism, holds 2 AA Rosettes and is a member of the Lincoln Hotel and Guest House Association (all of whose members offer 'quality assured' B&B guest house or hotel accommodation).
